Simon has over a decade of experience in wastes and environmental management, and has developed key areas of expertise in waste policy, legislation, research, strategy, regulation and education. He has worked at local, national and international level, engaging local and national government departments, industry, academia, regulators, NGO, community and commercial sectors. He is also a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Wastes Management. In addition to wastes management, Simon has also had key roles in sustainable construction practice, climate change strategy and other sustainable development issues.

Simon was awarded an Honours Degree in Geography from the University of Aberdeen in 1995. In 1999 he was awarded a Masters Degree in Wastes Management from the University of Sunderland and the prestigious James Sumner Award from the then Institute of Wastes Management. He has worked for the States of Guernsey, Scotland and Northern Ireland Forum For Environmental Research and the City of Edinburgh Council.

Simon's particular interests are in international wastes and environmental management, environmental policy and governance and also, as a Christian, he is interested in the role of faith in dealing with the environmental questions that we face. Simon undertook work in Sri Lanka assisting relief and development organizations in dealing with the aftermath of the Asian tsunami, and he is assisting other agencies in dealing with the environmental challenges that they face. He is currently completing an MA in Global Issues in Contemporary Mission at Redlciffe College, Centre for Mission training, Gloucester UK. Simon is in increasing demand as a passionate speaker on issues concerning the environment at conferences and workshops across the UK and internationally.
